There a quite a few VR headsets in the market of which most of them work perfectly with our software. However a distinction should be made between three types of headsets:
- Discrete VR headsets (which are connected to a computer or gameconsole)
- Standalone VR headsets (all-in-one, no external devices needed)
- Slide-on VR headsets (for which a mobile phone is needed)
The top category are VR headsets such as the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift. We do not support these VR headsets.
Our supported platforms
Our software is made for slide-on VR headsets and the standalone VR headset Oculus Go. We currently have our Warp VR app available for these platforms:
- Oculus Go
- Samsung Gear VR
The all-in-one VR headset Oculus Go is our overall recommended choice for using the Warp VR app. It's powerful, lightweight, and provides great quality VR at a reasonable price. You can read more about why we recommend the Oculus Go on our blog post.
If you are the owner of a recent Samsung smartphone, you can buy the Samsung Gear VR for your phone, which is the more high-end option for slide-on VR headsets. The Gear VR has high quality lenses for better viewing quality and a touchpad for input, and does not rely on the smartphone's sensors for head tracking. The Gear VR has sensors built within, allowing for fast and accurate rotational tracking. It also comes shipped with a controller which makes interaction in our app a lot smoother. There are different Gear VR models for different Samsung phones, so be sure to check if the one you're buying is compatible with your phone.
If you don't have or want a Samsung Gear VR or Oculus Go, you can still use the Warp VR app. A large range of slide-on VR headsets can be found online ranging from $2 cardboard headsets to $130 high-end headsets. The VR Headset V2 from Homido is a good, affordable option.
